Sorry if this has been asked before, I am not very good with the search
feature.

For 2 years, I've not had many issues with IE at all, untill this very last
critical update from Microsoft on the Service Pack for Internet Explorer 6 .

Now, for some reason, while I am browsing, opening pages in a new window,
etc... occasionally, some/few/all of the windows will just close for no
reason whatsoever. This is really a problem, because I have a work setup,
where I need a bunch of windows open at once, and its not fun having to redo
them all. In the past, I have had IE crash on occassion, but it would at
least give an error notice, and even then, it would close ALL of the IE
windows. This is some kind of a new problem.

I'm very security consious, no spyware, adware, etc. Running Norton 2005,
have all Win SP's, etc. I keep track of what programs are running at all
times, so this is not be an issue.

Any ideas ? This only started with the last Critical update for IE 6 from
the windows update page around late May / June 2005 (forget exactly).

Okay :) again. Spyware, Adaware, Virus, Hijackware, etc .. is NOT an
issue . I keep track of everything dealing with this very well. Very
security consious. I don't install a Microsoft product without checking it
first so to speak. so its not an issue of anything hijacking my system.

I run Windows XP, SP 2 .
Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2..........

No ill effects with web browsing, or Windows in general. Simply the fact,
that some/few/all IE browser Windows just close for no reason now. Started
immediatly after Microsofts last Critical Update.

I did some more searching. Seems I am not the only person with this issue.

Anyone know of a fix ?

Thanks, Siddy

Please post the URL pointing to the forum thread where you've posted your
HijackThis log.

I swear. I know you are trying to help, and thanks. But no more hijack /
adaware / etc stuff on this issue. Its not a problem with the issue I am
having with IE 6 and the last critical update. I'm NOT posting logs, urls,
etc on irrelevent issues. In English, "My Computer is not hijacked". Thank
you :) I just don't like repeating my self is all, even when people are
trying to help. It doesn't make sense to either party in question.
Further research , has lead me to believe it could be an integrated Norton
2005 issue I am having. I have seen a few threads on it, all with similar
symptoms, running Norton. I'll keep checking. But PLEASE... no more
hijackthis logs. I know what Hijackthis is, and its irrelevant here.

Here are some other avenues to take then. Without seeing a HT log, I can't
rule out hijackware or Registry problems and so cannot offer you any more
guidance:

Is the update to which you refer MS05-020/KB890923 (Apr-05) or
MS05-025/KB883939 (Jun-05)?

Did you install the update via Windows Update, Automatic Update or via
separate download?

Was NAV running when you installed the update?

Does uninstalling the update resolve the problem?

Does disabling NAV's Script Blocking resolve the problem?

Does disabling or uninstalling NAV/NSW/NIS 2005 resolve the problem?

Best of luck.
