today I installed a sharing program (no spyware or adware..) and afer
deciding I don't want it, I uninstalled it, and since that moment I couldn't
open IE6! when I click on it, nothing happens! when I go to Windows Task
Manager I can see that it's loading there for a few seconds and then it
disappears. I went to regedit and removed any remnants of that program, but
still nothing happend. I decide to restore my computer to yesterday but
nothing changed.
my internet is working correctly (skype, MSN messenger), so my friend sent
me firefox, but I'd like to go back to IE6.

can anyone please help me?

p.s.
I'm using Windows XP Pro (SP2 integrated) with the latest updates
my computer is HP pavilion ze4949EA

thanks!

Hi Tom :-)

It is possible that some files were damaged or corrupted by the program, or
it's removal. Try the following and see if it helps:

Reinstall or Repair IE / OE in Windows XP -
Try IEFix: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Or, try the manual procedure below:

First, try reinstalling from the INF files.

Click Start/Run/Type the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf

This fixes most problems. If not, see below:

Your Winsock may have been damaged..try the following:

Winsock Fix Utility
http://www.dfwonline.net/files/WinsockFix.zip
WinsockXP Fix for XP
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at
http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

Hope this helps.

Mine has died again too- the third time in the last couple of months. Get
that second browser for when it goes into hibernation. It happened after the
latest updates from MS, and once before it was after these too. And you
can't access the updatesite when it stops working either to see the list of
updates that are installed to bin the things. Why don't they let you access
the updates with the better browsers- restrictive practices?
