My Hard drive starts with the wrong letter!

My hard drive is listed as local disk (F)
and when I try to install auto-installing apps (such as
games) they fail and say my drive (C) doesn't have enough
space. I don't have a drive (c)...so my question is:

how can I change the name of my drive to (C) without re-
formatting or otherwise doing anything to lose my current
system etc...?

When you installed XP, you must have had an external (non optical) drive
attached.....
