Because of the jerkwaters, script kiddies and the fukwits who kept
attempting to create directories and upload viri to my ftp server I've
removed anonymous access. Anyone who wants the a.c.f. CD files will need to
contact me and have an account set up.

Too bad there's not a way to booby trap your site so if anyone tries any
funny stuff, it whacks his machine down to the bare hardware.

After adding the 20th IP into the blocks I just decided it was easier to
remove the anonymous login. I figured that if that many people were
determined to abuse it in the short amount of time I opened it up, there
wasn't much point in offering it. The files are still there, but anyone who
wants them will have to get with me to set up a user/pwd for them. It
doesn't matter what you do for people, there's always a handful who want to
trash it for everyone else. Shame though...there were quite a few people
downloading the a.c.f. files.

What strange ftp-server program are you using?
Why can't you simply allow anonymous download while disallowing uploads?

By the way, why not use a http file server?
Web servers normally allow anonymous download without problems.

Can't you find any better solution than making the user ask for an ftp
account before downloading?

I was using Apache for web and Pablo's ftp server. I've recently switched
back to using WebWeaver and am trying to see what improvements he's made to
his ftp server.

Which do you suggest?

I would have preferred to leave it anonymous and may go back to running
Pablo's ftp server again. I was trying to cut down on the number of
programs I've got running.

Lovely (not). Download appears to be hosted on Simtel; nothing like having to
jump thru hoops (Java, et cetera) so as to come close to grabbing the file
(which still has not arrived here, btw).
A *pox* upon Simtel.net!

Downloaded fine for me. Let me know if you still need a copy. Do you still
flop over in abss?

Yeah; I pop in there every so often...

And the legal system should start hitting them harder,
