starting a few days ago i cannot open any folders on my
computer (my computer, any desktop folders, control panel,
search computer, etc). i will double click the icon and the
folder will come up for a second, the desktop will go blank
and then the folder will disappear. i tried to search
google for a solution, but just found links to download
antispyware and i downloaded the microsoft antispyware beta
1. i ran that and it found like 26 different things on my
computer (including shop at home select which i've had for
some time now) so i deleted all of those and my folders
worked for a short time, but after restarted my computer my
folders haven't worked since.

please help ):

Restart you computer in safe mode, open Microsoft AntiSpyware, on the Scan
Page, choose Scan Options > Full System Scan (check the boxes below) > click
"Run Scan Now".

Also run the the following thirdparty solutions in safe mode too:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com
Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com

For Microsoft AntiSpyware, also send suspected spyware report/s from the
Tools Menu.

Hi

I've often wondered why it is better to run a scan in safe mode.

Could you give me a brief explanation please?

Same type of question concerning turning off 'restoration'.

Even if it is infected, as long as you don't 'restore', I can't see why.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Because in the safe mode system starts with limited set of services and
processes - this allows for example to detect and remove this malware, that
runs as a service in normal mode (what prevents it from being removed).

Same type of question concerning turning off 'restoration'.

Even if it is infected, as long as you don't 'restore', I can't see why.

But if you will restore, you again will face the same malware threat..

I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM--CAN YOU GIVE ME A STEP-BT-STEP GUIDE TO WHAT
I SHOULD DO, PLEASE, BEGINNING WITH HOW I RESTART IN THE SAFE MODE. MANY
THANKS, KDCUTLER

Hello KDC,

writing big is shouting in a newsgroup!

for the restart in save mode"toggle F8 key at boot up"
you get a screen where you can choose "Save Mode"

Regards >*< TOM >*<

Like Tom says, just press F8 before it reaches the Splash screen, a list of
options will then pop up, use your up and down arrow key to move through the
list of options, selection Safe Mode, press enter and Windows will boot into
safe mode. Log in to the Administrator account, Open Microsoft AntiSpyware,
on the Scan >> Page, choose Scan Options > Full System Scan (check the boxes
below) > click > "Run Scan Now".
