My Excel document highlights fields and won't let me type anything

When I enter into Excel I find that I cannot type in any cell as it seems
like I am holding my mouse down/highlighting the cells when I am not.

I have changed Mouse and changed Keyboard. It doesn't happen everyday but
every now and then. What am I doing wrong?

Did you find a solution to this as my mate has encountered a similar problem
after he spilt some water on his laptop?
