My DVD player stopped working

My DVD player no longer plays DVDs. It used to work
perfectly fine. It can still recognize and play CDs but
when a DVD is inserted, nothing happens. Even if I try
to manually start the player it will prompt me to insert
a DVD when there is already one inserted. I tried
certain DVDs that I know for sure played before. I
exhausted the troubleshooter and help menus. Does anyone
know what I can do next?
 
I had the opposite problem. It would play DVD's but it
wouldn't recognize a music CD in the drive. The drive
was bad....
