If the drive is spinning, try cleaning it. they sell disks with little
brushes on them. You put the disk in the drive, it spins and cleans the
dust off of the laser.
also try cleaning the disks.
if the drive isn't spinning check the power cable to make sure it's
not loose.
Your player drive is what MS calls a DEVICE that needs
DRIVERS i.e. special software in order to run OK. There
are two quick cure for problems like yours.
1. If the malfunction is new, run / System Restore and
select a date before the malfunction happened.
2. Uninstal and then reinstal the device. This is done via
/Control Panel /Device Manager. Select (expand) the
device, then REMOVE it. Then reboot and (in theory)
Windows will while booting find a "new" device and instal
its drivers (if the Registry is in good shape.)
