My downloads wont work

This all started a few days ago and im not sure what to
do. Ive asked a few friends about this but they didnt do
too much for me so I figured i'd ask you guys. Whenever I
try and dl any kind of file the the dl tracker pops up to
show the progress and from there it doesnt do a thing. It
wont even go to 1%, I dont even get a chance to save it.
Some times it says "this page cannot be displayed". If I
go to a site to watch a movie or such, I cant even watch
the movie. I dont know what to do so if you can please
help me out.

By the dl tracker I mean the small window that pops up
whenever you try to download something. It usually
displays the progress (1%,2% so on), the download rate,
the name of the item being downloaded and from what site.

When I go to download something, I dont even get a chance
to choose what folder/drive I want to save it too, it
just sits there.
 
For a better explaination when i click on any type of
downloadable link from any site it the download manager
pops up, by download manager i mean the one built in
internet explorer it sits there for a little while, then
after like 10 seconds it says this:
"Internet Explorer cannot download blahblah.exe from
blah.blah.com.

Internet Explorer was not ablet o open this Internet
site. The REquested site is either unavailable or cannot
be found. Please try again later."

Yet i can download through winmx and other things so its
an internal problem with internet explorer.
 
Disable the third-party download managers and use Internet Explore default
download interface (for troubleshooting purpose)

Click Start | Run | Regedit
Goto this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Choose file > Export and save it as a .REG file (as a backup)
In the right-pane, change the data for "DownloadUI" to blank.
Logoff and re-login
Download a software.

If this helps, the problem is with the download manager you are using.
Reinstall it.
