How are you deleting them? A way which is supposed to work is via
Explorer (or any File dialog box, e.g. in Word), select the file, then
press DELete key, or Right Mouse click and select "Delete".

If the above doesn't work, then all I can think is that your machine has
been hacked by spybot, virus, or someone. Check with anti-virus and
spybot detection software.

Rob,
Please excuse my answer should it be incorrect.
I thought perhaps a KB article might exist which I wasn't aware of.

The duplicate files are a result of improper over clicking of the mouse.
Pressing he wrong button when copying.
It's been posted here frequently and it happens to me frequently when
deleting large amounts of files.

The user just needs to be more careful with their mouse or else use the
keyboard key with either the CTRL key or the SHIFT key to select the files
rather than the mouse.

BTW the user should be able to delete all those duplicate files if they can
do so without adding more :-(

Sorry, completely unaware of this as a problem. I try to remember
everything, but can no longer do so. :-)

I also don't now how to use the "keyboard key with either the CTRL key
or SHIFT key to select the files rather than with mouse.

I know how to:

With Mouse:
Press CTRL then click file with Mouse ... individually selects the file
Press SHIFT then click file with Mouse ... selects block between it and
last clicked file (sometimes this can get confusing).
....etc.

Without Mouse:
Press Up/Down keys to navigate through list and if SHIFT key pressed,
the files will get "swiped" and selected. If CTRL pressed while cursor
on a file, then press Up or Down key, that single file will get selected.
Use Tab key to "rotate" through the windows.
....etc.

Which is the "incorrect" key which gets pressed to created all the
duplicates? I'd be keen to understand how to replicate this.

<snip>Which is the "incorrect" key which gets pressed to created all the

It's not a key which is the cause.
It's the result of a very slight and accidental pressing of the right mouse
button while selecting files with the left mouse button.

Thanks ... I've tried and tried ... even with the most "slight" pressing
of the right mouse button, all I get is the mini-window dialog box with
properties and actions. Can't replicate. Oh well. Have a good weekend.

I think what lostinspace is thinking of is accidentally dragging a file
while Ctrl is pressed, which causes a copy to be created.

I have the same problem and as of yet have not found a solution. If you can help, please reply. Thanks.

What exactly is your "same" problem? You either need to reply to an
existing thread (sort of like a subthread) so we know what the initial post
was, or be more specific as to your problem. Glad to help - please clarify
the problem!
