My Documents vs. User documents

This is almost to simple to ask. I have been using
computers for years but never could figure out why my
files seemed to be saved in several places. I am a file
junky and save everything. Now I need to hit the delete
key. My question....if I delete the "user files" (under
my name) does that delete the files that I have saved in
My Documents? They are the same files (or a lot of the
same files). How can I prevent duplicate saving of files
on my hard drive. Or is this not really a problem at all,
but a double listing and not actually duplication of the
files.

I should have figured this out years ago because I have
been using computers for 20+ years, but I just sort of
swept this question under the rug, so to speak. Can
anyone help?

Thanks

Nancy
