I'm sorry if this is redundant, but the newsgroup
search feature is temporarily disabled.
I have a small network with 3 W2k SP4 clients and a
W2K Server SP4 acting as a domain server. When I installed
MSAntiSpy I got a "Messenger is running" alert (which I
ignored) and after I rebooted I received the message:
"Microsoft AntiSpyware has detected your default user
folder (shell folder) Personal attempting to be changed
from \\Server\files\documents\%username% to
\\Server\files\documents\%username%[]???."
I denied the changes on at least two computers. I
allowed it on the server. I don't remember what I chose
for the 4th. The last two computers work fine. On the
first two machines the My Documents target folder (which
is located on the server) was changed from the account
name to %username%. An empty folder called %username% was
created on the server. Opening My Documents from these two
machines opened the empty folder.
I am not familiar enough with the network to
understand why, but I cannot change the target folder
under My Documents Properties.
Furthermore, if I make the change in the registry
under
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/She
ll Folders/Personal to change it back, it is reverted to %
username% upon reboot. I also found that if I export the
Shell Folders registry key it reverts back. %username% was
in the My Pictures value as well, but it kept its changes.
Lastly, uninstalling and reinstalling MSAntiSpy does
not reproduce the message, but even without MSAntiSpy
installed, the %username% setting sticks. This problem did
not occur until I installed MSAntiSpy Beta1. Is this an
otherwise hidden function that I've tripped up by denying
it? Any help with getting things back in order would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Sincerely,
