My Documents Redirection

Someone delete and then recreated an account that has a GPO to redirect the my Docs folder to the server. When the user returned after two months of being out he logged in and all his files were missing. Were the files deleted or overwritten when he logged in with the new account? Is there any way to recover these files?
 
That depends on if the Particular Folder Redirection Policy was set to
redirect the content back to the local machine or keep it at the server.
