Could someone please help me find how to fix this problem, I have tried
everything I know, I have windows xp updates 1 and 2 have norton anti virus
zone alarm firewall, spybot, spyweeper, and have ran them all and still can't
open my documents or pictures. they are in JPG and set to open with windows
picture and fax viewer.
I get no preview available, and then Paint cannot read this file this is not
a valid bitmap file or its format is not currently supported.
I cannot view any of my documents, I read in one of the post that the last
patch windows update had may have caused this and to go in and delete it and
see, but it is not on my add remove programs but the xp2 update is.
Would really appreciate any help I can get, have been working on this for
over a week now.
Thank you

I cannot help you personally, but I have been most impressed by the help on
this type of question given on NG

Sorry, but an individual reply goes into my spam filter

First you need to open the documens folder and switch the setting under the
'VIEW' drop-down menu to 'THUMBNAILS'. See if your pictures are previewing
there.
Next, try a system restore under 'SYSTEM TOOLS' under the 'ACCESSORIES'
folder in the 'START' menu. Restore the system to a previous time when you
know for sure that you were able to view the pics. Finally, check your
attributes by right-clicking a picture and clicking on 'PROPERTIES'. See if
it is still listed as a JPEG file and what it opens with. I'm not even sure
what the 'READ ONLY' and 'HIDDEN' buttons do, but mine aren't checked and,
even when I DO check them, I can still open my pics. Hope that helps and, if
not, let us know so someone a lot smarter than me can help you.

I just went into my pictures and took off the read only to all of them and
still get a no preview available, and they are jpg, not jpeg, don't know what
to do now. but thank you for your time.

Hi,
I know there is something in the folders, but I can't open them, am I going
to have to delete all of them or can someone help me to fix them? I am just
worn out from trying to get my picturs and documents opened.
Does Kelley work on this site?

Try the ...

Thanks for your time, but have already tried this one too. appreciate all the help, but so far still can't open them.

If you can't get them to open, go to support from your start menu and send an
e-amil to microsoft. A tech will respond to you directly within a day and can
tell you exctly what to do and look for. They have helped me tremendously.

I had to recently had to re-install Windows XP Home Edition, and can no
longer open pictures that I have saved, I get the "No Preview Available
Message" I have tried the "fix association" fix, the "AOL uncompress" fix,
"disk check" disk defrag, and every other fix that I have seen on here,
nothing has worked, I tried to contact Windows Support, but they want to
charge me $60 dollars to try to help me, any other suggestions or fixes would
be greatly appreciated ?
