My Documents missing

OK, everything thing that I've read says this should be impossible.
Leave it to my users to do the impossible.

Here's the scoop: I have a user who 'accidentally' deleted his My
Documents folder. It's not on the desktop. It's not in the recycle
bin. It's not in the explorer or hanging off the start menu. It's
totally gone and of course he doesn't know how it happened.

If we create a new My Documents folder, it (of course) does not have
the same characteristics as the original one. Any ideas on how to
create a working My Documents? Anyone else have users who do the
impossible?

What a lovely thing to be tasked with on a Friday afternoon.

Control Panel|Folder Options|View, then check the box for "Show My Documents
on the Desktop"
