I set up a new XP and I need to transfer items from Me. I had planned on
making copies of the files and then loading them into XP. The problem is
that XP is not compatiable with disks created by adaptec directcd. Can I
connect the two systems together with a simple cable and move this info? I
would not want to send all of this info in mail to myself. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You can connect them with a crossover cable and simply transfer the data, or
you can install the adaptec software into the XP system (provided it is
compatible). For a crossover cable, visit any local pc shop and they can
supply you with one, they are very inexpensive.

An alternative for you would be to pull the hard drive from the WinME
machine and slave it in the WinXP machine, then simply copy over the desired
data.

Hi Rick

I did not have much success with the crossover cable. I installed a network
card on Me so I could connect crossover cable and spent several hours
attempting to set up a network between the two. I got connected and could
ping from XP but not from Me. I was not able to transfer any info. Am I close
at this point? Can you offer any suggestions?

Can you give me any details on slaving the hard drive from the Me into the
XP if I am not very close to a network solution?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Turn off the XP firewall after making sure there is no internet connection.

Hey,

I figured I needed to have firewall turned off. The XP is telling me I'm
connected. The ME is giving me an Error: 650. Is there a step by step that
you can direct me to. I have made a lot of changes trying to find something
that works and I feel like I am missing something simple at this point.

If not a checklist...What would you suggest next?

Thanks again,

Joe

Hi,

It may be a silly question at this point...When you first told me to get a
crossover cable, should I have gotten an USB as opposed to an Ethernet?

The link you sent me does not really talk about Ethernet that much at
glance, but I will look throughly.

Thanks

Joe
