I switched my laptop from a doamin (for which it was
configured) to a Workgroup. After entering a workgroup
name, username, and passowrd, I had to restart.

At this point I did not know the Admin password, so I was
unable to continue.

The admin reset the laptop to domain, but upon logging
back on (with my username/password), everything in "My
documents" had dissapered. (along with many other user
settings)

Special software was used to recover deleted items. Yet,
it found none of the files. Recent documents dosen't show
anything, and searching for the files, also turns up
nothing.

any help is greatly appriciated!

Hello, Ty -

The stuff isn't missing, really :)

When you join a domain and log in to that domain account
Windows XP creates a new user profile for you. The
documents are still there, but since you have a new user
profile on the machine you have a new "My Documents"
folder.

The reason the utility didn't find the files is that
they're most likely not deleted ;-)

Tell the admin to look in c:\documents and settings and
move the documents from your old local profile to your
new domain profile.
