please help me... "your current display settings indicate
that you are running in less than 256 colors. Please
increase your color depth to 256 before running [anything
from a CD!]." I have no other option besides 16-bit color
under my Display drop-down list in my Control
Panel /Display /Settings. I have reinstalled Windows 2000
operating system, and upon boot-up, I recieve messages
that new hardware was found, but no drivers can be located
for either my Multimedia Audio Controller or the Video
Controller. I have not even loaded any other software
onto my desktop yet. Is it possible that my "display
adapter" may be faulty? I cannot get any sound to play,
either. I've spent nearly 8 hours trying to troubleshoot
this, as I'd like to be able to load other software onto
my computer, but my first error message is always that i
need to increase my color depth to 256 colors, which i
cannot do. Thank you!

You must install the correct driver for your video adapter.
It is either on the drive CD that came with your PC, or on
a separate CD that is specific for your video adapter.

If you cannot find it there then you must find out what
adapter you have. Press the Pause key during the boot
stage and examine the screen. Many video adapters
put a signature line on top of the screen at boot time.
Alternatively you can open your machine, remove your
video adapter (unless it is on the motherboard!) and
find out its brand name and model number.

Once you know what adapter you have, you can download
a suitable driver from www.driverguide.com.
