I just upgraded my Gateway 600 tower PC from Win 98 to Win
XP Pro. The upgrade went well but when the PC boots up,
just after the initial Windows XP screen, the monitor goes
to sleep and I cant wake it back up.

The video card is a 16MB nVidia RIVA TNT2 AGP graphics for
a 15" LCD monitor (Gateway).

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I can't get
into the control panel to turn off the power save mode for
the display.

Thanks in advance.

You can try shut-down,on starting tap the F8 key, then
select, start in safe mode,in windows turn off the switch.
The other,on starting enter BIOS(usually tapping F1/Help)
go to power tab, turn off all. Then exit page, save changes
and exit BIOS.Since xp hasnt loaded yet,the BIOS is
probably the place to start.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did manage to boot up by
pressing the F8 key during startup and requesting to start
with the display in VGA mode. This works and I can get
into the display settings. I disabled ALL the power saving
features, but when I select any higher resolution for the
display, the screen goes dark (sleep mode) and I again
cannot wake it up. The only way out is to power off the
machine and back on.

Any other suggestions? I'm beginning to think that my
video card will not work with XP (I am using nVidia TNT2
Pro card with 16MB of memory).
