Some of you might still remember that I had a bad power-on issue with
my Dell Inspiron 600m. I discussed this in this group in June, and here
is the thread:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt....+600m+power+june+2003&rnum=1#dc358be706ab714c

I eventually screwed up my courage and ordered a used motherboard from
eBay at 190 bucks and swapped out the problematic one. That was in
late June and everything worked just fine ever since.

But today, 2 months later, the laptop is dead again.

After I pushed the power button, the system attempts to boot, but hangs
at the point shown in the following picture.

And I powered it off and tried to power it on again, then it wouldn't
even proceed to this point at all. Simply nothings shows up on the
screen, and the system powers off automatically around 10 seconds
later. Does this mean the end of this shabby Dell laptop?

Any diagnostic advice is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

I don't think it's unfixable. But.... Considiering it's already had its
motherboard replaced, It may be time to retire it.

The original mother board failed, and your replaced it. But, you never
investigated to find the reason "WHY IT FAILED".

It is possible that the power supply may be out of spec due to a failure, or
some other device that is connected to the mother board has a defect, and is
causing problems over time. This is the reason why service centres are
equipped to do the proper tests to make sure that all the devices are
functioning properly.

When something like a laptop is failing, personally I go out and buy a new
one, instead of chasing after an older computer that will soon be obsolete.
If you plan to keep a laptop for more than a year and you are a heavy user,
you should always take an extended warranty when you buy it.
