Every time I try to use the defragmenter that comes in
the xp program the computer crashes? I've tried using
the defragmenter in safe mode and it still wouldn't work
and I also tried just shutting down all startup item
except systray and explorer and it still wouldn't work.
Is their a defragmenter that you recommend I buy? I
called technical support and they told me that because I
use e-z bios to make a larger hard drive work for my
computer that the defragmenter will not work with windows
xp but it worked when I had windows 98? Also I ran a
compatibility check on the internet and my computer was
found to be compatible for windows xp? Any help you can
give would be much appreciated.

First run the disk cleanup and the error checking tools.
Open the my computer, right click the hard drive, select
properties, then tools tab, error checking, and it will
only run during the next reboot. Error checking is also
called check disk, (like the old scan disk tool). Be sure
to choose only the first option for "automatically fix
file system errors" in that dialog box. Try the system
file checker tool, ( click start, run, type in; "
sfc /scannow " ) with that space after the sfc. I use
Diskeeper from Executive Software, found here;
http://consumer.execsoft.com/diskeeper/diskeeper.asp?RId=1

I have had the same problem, only the PC did not crash. The
defragmenter would not finish analyzing any partition.

I narrowed it down to an incompatability with my anti-virus
software...even when it was disabled.

Since it happened right after I had installed this product,
I uninstalled and cleaned out the registry.

Defrag worked fine...what the conflict was I have no idea
as the software support made no mention of it.

Check your other software installed.

:)
