Here is what happens.
XP Home addition.
Start>programs>accesorie>system tools>deframent
Then I get a Microsoft Management Console screnn that says
"Snap-in failed to initialize"
Name:unknown
CISID: and a whole string of letters and numbers

Any idea why I cant use defrag?

The CLSID that you omitted might be helpful in assisting you.

However, copy the FRAMEDYN.DLL from the Windows\System32\DLLCACHE folder to
the Windows\System32\WBEM folder.

Also, go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Environment variables and
ensure that the PATH statement in System Variables includes the following:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;

Kelly has a zip file download at line 280 "restore defrag.exe".
Hopefully this will take care of your problem.

Maureen,

The user's problem is that DFRG.MSC won't run. This is completely
independent of DEFRAG.EXE which is a command line utility.
