.... and now all her photos are gone. She tried checking the recycle bin,
and tried restoring (per manufacturer's help line).

Anyone have other approaches to locating/restoring her user account/profile?
Dad wants to look like a hero...<g>

Thanks in advance

WindowsXP Home, multiple user accounts.

There are third party tools available that handle this, such as Emergency
Undelete from http://www.undelete.com/coverpage.asp and others. Deleting the
files only marks the space as available to use so the sooner you stop using
the drive the better chance you'll have of recovery. Failing this one of the
drive recovery services might be the next step. Either case don't use the
drive.

Thanks, Dave. I'm not in the same town as my daughter/her PC, so I'm not
sure what she did (she's a little frantic right now).

It sounds like she removed her user account -- would the EUndelete you
mentioned help in that circumstance?

Thanks

Jeff

WindowsXP Home, multiple user accounts.

Get her to login via the Administrator account (tap F8 several times
just after the POST messages, the username will be Administrator and
the password should be blank unless someone has set a password on that
account), if she chose NOT to delete the users files she may be able to
see them that way.

If she did delete the files then she may get some back using:-
PC Inspector File Recovery from
http://www.pcinspector.de/file _recovery/uk/welcome.htm
or BadCopy Pro from:-
http://www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/?rid=BadCopy&vid=3.20

Really depends if the space has been overwritten. Was the account delete or
the profile? If the former then the profile and files may still be in the
\Documents and Settings folder.

Tell her to click "My Computer" > (plus sign on) C: > (plus sign on)
"Documents and Settings" then look down the list to see if her folder is
there, or look in "All Users" "Administrator" or "Owner" look in "My
Pictures" of each of those. If she finds them, click on the C: root again,
go up to "file" >New>Folder Name it "Pictures", go back into the file where
the pictures are click one and CTRL+A then drag them all to C:\Pictures
file. Safer there than in "My Pictures". If she can't find them at all and
she hasn't done too many reboots or defragging, go here
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm and get PC
Inspector - a free recovery tool.
When you run the program, search those files again from the program, and if
they appear, RECOVER them.

Thanks to all for ideas and assistance.

We've used the PC Inspector tool and recovered several hundred photos. Not
all, but any is better than none.
