My contact groups will not save

I am trying to create contact groups within my address book (2000) Before
realizing what was going on I spent many hours typing in contacts only to
have them disappear!! They will not save. I have tried importing from
address book and have tried creating new contacts within a group. Even if I
don't close the program and just minimize... they disappear. Any advice
would be appreciated!

Outlook does not use groups in the address book. Outlook Express does.
Outlook uses Distribution Lists that you create in your Contacts Folder.
Never try to create any Outlook Item in the address book view. That's not
what it's for.

I use Outlook and Outlook Express they both seem to share the same address
book. If I add a contact to one it will show up in the other. I try to use
the Express for all of my business. If I add a contact to a group in either
program (because they both have add contacts and add groups in them, I don't
see anything anywhere that has to do with distribution lists) I can create a
group and add contacts but then they disappear! Should I be creating these
groups in Access instead?

No. You should be doing what I suggested: create Distribution Lists in your
Contacts Folders.
File > New > Distribution List. As I said, never create data in the address
book view. There is no data there and it is an unreliable interface. Create
all data in your Contacts Folder.
What makes your problem worse is that in your case you aren't really using
Outlook when you use the address book. You are using Outlook Express. You
are using Internet Mail Only mode of Outlook 2000, which is not a full
version of Outlook.
