My Connection From Hell

I've made a couple of posts concerning this connection from
hell in the past 12 months or so but have never resolved the
problem. Sometimes I can connect, other times I can't. I
can't identify any pattern to the problem.

When it works, I expect to find the website on hop 13. When
it doesn't, this is a log from tracert today. Does this log
suggest in any way why it doesn't? Re-installation & new
modem hasn't resolved the problem.

ICMP (the protocol implementing ping and tracert)
may not get very high priority and is often blocked
so it isn't a very reliable indication of HTTP connectivity.

Try using the -d option to see if the reverse lookups are the problem?

Tracing route to stargatesga.com [66.90.73.106]

The site name that you are tracing is an alias.
Evidently tracert does the lookup for it, then does (what?)
a reverse lookup on that IP address? (apparently not. see below.)
remembers the canonical name and inserts it into the report? (seems so.)
You can see both names and their relationship using nslookup.

<example>
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: stargatesga.com
Address: 66.90.73.106
Aliases: www.stargatesga.com
</example>

Evidently for this site ICMP is allowed.
Here's the end of my tracert to it.
Notice the reverse lookup?

<example>
12 128 ms 126 ms 124 ms sv1.ameraust.net [66.90.73.106]
</example>

In fact that's what I get from nslookup too.

<example>
Name: sv1.ameraust.net
Address: 66.90.73.106
</example>

No mention of stargatesga.com at all? Strange.

BTW I'm not sure how relevant all this is to your *real* symptom. <eg>

You may get a more informed explanation in a newsgroup which specializes
in networking for your OS. There is a link to such a newsgroup in this troubleshooter:

Good luck
