my concatenate is broken

So I've been using concatenate (and many other functions
in Excel) for quite a while, and I think I may have some
sort of bug in this function though. It started when
someone sent me a file that stubbornly refused to
calculate the correct value for a concatenate function,
unless I saved the file and reopened it. Now I'm working
with a file where the two cells I'm concatenating are text
files showing "01" and "001". I want the result to
be "01001" - but the result is 1!

Has anyone else seen this? Is there some sort of patch or
something I can get to fix this hiccup?

Hi
best way:
- post your exact formula
- post the values of the cells used in ypur formula

I am sure it aint broken, there must be something else.
So you are saying you use a formula like

=CONCATENATE(A1,B1)

where A1 would hold text 01 and B1 001?

I could understand if they were formatted numbers but the you should get 11
and not 1..

You could email me a sample if you want..

Hmm... well, I got this sheet to work when I moved it to a
new book, so maybe the problem was specific to the file.
The file I got from a download from the US Census.

Thanks for your help--

L.
