Why is it "My Computer" taking so long to load? It eventually does load (2-3 minutes) but this is way annoying. Thanx.

Have you added any mapped drives recently?

I have a network between 2 computers in my home. I installed the software for that (wireless Microsoft modem). What could I have done wrong?

Dunno - what is or is not happening?

When you open My Computer, what is the list of drives that you see?

Have you access the other computer using "My Network Places"?

The slow response of My Computer *might* be the result of your computer
trying to establish a connection with a "mapped drive", a drive you accessed
on another system, or a external storage device like a Zip drive or external
CD/DVD drive.

Try this, go into Windows Explorer, go to the menu bar ,
click TOOLS | FOLDER OPTIONS | VIEW "Tab"

Uncheck "Automatically search for network folders and printers".

It won't solve your networking problem, but will allow you to browse your
"My Computer" folder normally.

If that doesn't resolve anything, you might read this KB article and see if
the resolution they recommend fixes the problem.

Thank you DJ! That article did help, as I have the scanner listed that seems to conflict. Now I've got "My Computer" back to normal, but I need to figure out how to get the scanner working. I had to unplug it. Geeze.

Glad it solved part of the problem.

Scanners/support of scanners under 2000/XP is a whole different ball of wax.

Is your scanner listed in the Windows HCL (Hardware Compatibility List)?
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/search.mspx

Scanners are listed under "Imaging" product catagory.

When you installed the scanner and Twain software, did the instructions
suggest to manually install the drivers, instead of allowing XP to apply the
WIA driver or "Choose the best driver".

Your scanner company may have some info on the problem you're having, an
updated driver or have an FAQ that addresses the problem.

You might want to jump over to nntp://microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware
to post questions and

to dig further into the scanner problem. There are tons of KB (Knowldge
Base) articles on scanner problems as well.

Copy the link pasted below to see:

Good Luck, unsupported scanners can be a pain.

The problem was solved by simply letting XP install the software and not HP. All is working well again. Phew.
