Bob S.

I have Windows XP Home Edition. When I click on the icont "My
Computer, all the drives appear, but when I click on one, I only get a
dialogue box that asks what program I want to open it. I can access
the drives with Windows Explorer, but I want to be able to use "My
Computer" to do it. Can you tell me what I need to do?

Thanks.

Bob S.

All of them. "C" is my main drive, "E" is my DVD drive, and "F" is my
externl hard drive. Clicking on any of them results in the menu box
asking which program I want to open the "file".

What's the default option (shown in Bold characters) when you right-click on a drive?

You figured out the problem. The default option is "e", instead of
"open". How can I fix it??

Click Start, Run and type:

reg add hkcr\drive\shell /ve /d none /f

Press {ENTER}

I really appreciate your help. I tried it twice, and rebooted each
time, but the default when you right-click is still "e". Any other
ideas??

You're a genius. This time I cut and pasted the command, and now it
works perfectly. A million thanks.

You're welcome!

Wondering what that "e" entry is. Click Start, Run and type:

reg export hkcr\drive\shell "%userprofile%\desktop\drive.txt"

Press {ENTER}

Open "drive.txt" (located in the Desktop), copy the contents and include it in your reply.

Here it is. It's Greek to me, but i guess you'll understand it. Here's
a clue. When I clicked on the drive, a program called "WinDVD"
started. I think the "e" referred to me "e" drive (the CD Rom drive).
I have since uninstalled WinDVD. I wish I hadn't, because that isn't
what caused the problem. Thanks again.
