My Computer--Windows Explorer--Takes too long to start

Right after I installed Norton Internet Security Professional, I realized
that when I opened My Computer (it doesn't really matter how I opened it), I
realized that My Computer takes too much time to start the moment I
double-click the My Computer Icon to look into the contents of My Computer.
Is there a reason why it's taking Windows Explorer too much time to launch
My Computer? Why am I having this "Long time to start My Computer into
Windows Explorer" problem?

Try this, take Norton out.
reboot, is it faster?
Then the problem is Norton, if not it is something else.
Look at the options using Norton, perhaps you are doing a virus scan
on boot, duuu this might take some time
List all you have done to the machine from the last 'fast boot'
remove the changes one by one, reboot after each change
perhaps the boot will speed up.

By the way how long is a long time?
What kind of computer do you run?

Are you a mind reader?
I am not... please post with more details.
good luck

Sadly, I'm running Windows XP, and I don't have System Restore turned on
mainly because of all the clutter it might leave even after I performed a
System Restore.
By the way how long is a long time?

More than 5 seconds. It takes about 1-2 minutes to get My Computer running,
and sometimes, my items doesn't show in groups.
What kind of computer do you run?

Self-Made Tower

Intel Pentium 4 "Prescott" with Hyper Threading (2.8GHz)
Intel 848P Chipset
1GB PC3200 SDRAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5900
74.4GB Parrallel UDMA 100 2MB Buffer Hard Drive

No.

There was some instances when My Computer started instantly while Norton was
running on the background.

Norton can be much more intrusive than System Restore. It is notorious for
causing symptoms such as you have.

If you don't have restore turned on can you use
add and delete programs to remove the programs? one by one.

You seem to have the savy to get the hardware.
Why not use the same savy to use system restore.

Use disk cleanup to remove all but last restore point and
do manual restore points to keep at least one fall back place.

Hemlock also running xp

I have 2 80 gig drives ghosted clones.
