Mike

Twice in the last week, when I attempt to open the My
Computer window on a new XP Pro system, I get an unending
and futile search for the contents of the window.
Rebooting has provided access to the window, but the
entire process is frustrating.

If your system is "new" it must have a warranty.
Suggest you contact tech support from the manufacturer
before you make a "mess" of it!

Hi Mike,

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My
Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may
appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear.

Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service.
