I shut down my computer and when I went to boot up, the light only shows on
the "sun" icon and seems to just hang there. My keyboard shows no activity
when it comes to the lights on the upper right hand corner. What could be
wrong?

Thanks for any info.

Recheck the cord connections to and from the keyboard. A non-functioning keyboard will almost always keep the pc from booting up.

Kindly explain "sun" icon.

Maurice, I would say that Mona is talking about the little symbol on the front of the PC case where it shows hard drive activity. Mine has a symbol that looks like a light globe.

Yes, I checked the keyboard connections and everything is okay. Ha, Ha,
sorry my descriptions are quite off the wall. It's the 2 icons on the front
panel of the computer box. It looks like a sun or maybe a lighbulb icon and
the other looks like a can with a top on it. Boy do I really sound stupid,
but really I'm not !!!! hee hee. The thing is I'm very knowledgeable with
Windows 98 version "original" and still running it, and I know nothing about
XP which is my sons operating system. Thanks for your patience !!!

This is a hardware issue and has nothing to do with your operating
system. Here are some general hardware troubleshooting steps:

I'd start with the power supply. Testing hardware failures often
involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good parts. If you
can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your
computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not
your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

Do you see anything at all on the monitor --- when the pc is booting up or during power up ? You should see something on the screen.

As Malke noted, it is a hardware issue.

The "sun" or "lightbulb" is power on, the "can" is HD activity...

If all you can see is a bright 'sun' icon, but you hear no beep sound, or
see any activity from the other 'icon' on the front panel, then you most
likely have a dead computer..
