Hello,

When I click Start the only entries I see in the one area where My
Computer should be is My Documents, Pictures, and My Music.

How do I restore My Computer to this menu?

Thanks for your time in advance.

Right on the Start button and click on Properties then on the
Customize... button. Then click on the Advanced tab and take a look at
the Start menu items.

Hello,

I did that and "Show My Computer" was already selected. I noticed
several other things that were also selected which will not show there
either.

Any ideas?

XP Pro or XP Home? Sounds like the machine has been locked down a bit
with Group Policies.

John

Windows XP Home, I am the administrator and there is no group policy
editor in Home.

I wonder if this is related to the other problem I have where no drives
show in My Computer? I haven't been able to find anyone to solve that
problem.

I have TweakUI, and I've used it to make sure the drives aren't hidden
but it still does no good, the drives won't show in My Computer.

Yes, I have... and I've install Group Policy Editor and used it to set
the Hide drives in My Computer to disabled. Nothing works!

Maybe this Start Menu fix.. it mentions restoring, but might reset
permissions that will allow the display of "My Computer":

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 117. Restore Taskbar and Start Menu

Also, this registry edit removes My Computer and it could be used to
reinstate My Computer.

216. (r-h column) Remove My Computer from Desktop/Start Menu

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum]
"{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000001

Change the DWORD to 00000000 to disable.

I haven't tried this myself, but it should work.

Hello,

I don't know if anyone is still monitoring this thread, but the problem
has finally been fixed.

The solution was to set the setting the opposite of what I wanted it to
be and then set it back to show My Computer on the menu. After a reboot
My Computer is once more on the menu.

Thanks for all the help.
