My computer restartes linke crazy! It could be after 5
minutes or 5 hours, although lately it is more like a
couple hours. I have tried a new power supply and new RAM
but neither worked. I installed a new CPU fan and system
fam and it didn't work so I know it isn't over-heating. I
checked for the blaster worm and cleared it but i didn't
have it and it still restarts. WHAT CAN I DO? I have an
AMD Duron 950 Mhz with a soyo mother board, 40 GB hard
drive, and 512 of pc 133 RAM. Please help! thank you

how clean is your AC power???

dips in voltage can cause lockups or restarts. my parents
bought a ups and it solved their stability problems.

Hi, Curt.

The problem might be hardware (bad cables, short-circuits somewhere, fouled
connectors...). But if it is in the software, either in Windows or in an
application or driver, then you may be the victim of Microsoft's attempt to
make things simpler for newbies. WinXP comes set by default to
Automatically restart on System failure. As you know, many problems are
cured by simply rebooting, so this often works. But when it doesn't, we're
left with no clue as to what to do next.

Go to System Properties | Advanced | Startup and Recovery Settings. Remove
the check from Automatically restart.

Next time, instead of rebooting, your computer should halt with a BSOD (Blue
Screen of Death) full of codes. You will still have to reboot, but you will
have all the time you need to read the screen to see the error message
first. If you can't figure it out on your own, post the codes - verbatim -
into your next post here and some guru (not me!) can probably decipher them
and point you to the solution.

Hi,
Most likely, it's bad RAM. Make sure that you have the
correct RAM for that motherboard.
