When I install Windows, I always rename My Computer. I
name it H.A.L.-9000. I know it's corny but...
Last night I noticed it had been changed back to My
Computer. Both the desktop and the Explorer icons were
changed. I renamed to H.A.L.-9000 on the desktop and this
also changed back the explorer name. When I started the
computer today, they were changed back to My Computer
again. Does anybody have an idea what causes this?

John,

David Candy has identified this issue is caused by a certain version of nVidia driver. Rolling back the driver might help. See here for a workaround from Keith Miller: http://tinyurl.com/23t7k

Thanks, Ramesh. That makes sense as I've been having some
troubles with my nVidia drivers also. I'll check it out.

Ramesh...I tried the Keith Miller workaround you
suggested and that did the trick. Thanks again! ~John~
