My boy in playing kids games on my computer somehow messed up my operating
system. It was blacked out and I could not use it. I took it to a computer
place and the man told me the operating system needed to be replaced. He
replaced win xp sp2. Now my computer has no sound.

Searching msn I saw where the sound can mess up when the system crashes.

What is the problem and what can I do?

If this procedure will be a problem for you, you need (you have the right)
to contact the shop to guide you or help you to get the sound on your
machine!.

Try this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio devices
applet there.
Click on Sound and Audio Device then click Volume Tab and make sure these
settings are set correctly:
- Set the volume to High with slide selector.
- [ ] Mute <- make sure this not ticked/checked
- [ ] Place volume icon on the system try or the taskbar ,- check this
option please.

On the speaker settings make sure the right Sound device selected and check
the Advanced.. button for more settings and options.

If the above not found on your system then you will need to go to the
Machine or the motherboard manufacturer to download the driver for the sound
or if you have a CD with lots of drivers on it you will find it and you can
install it yourself.
HTH.
