My computer hangs when it tries to hibernate

I don't know whether this is an XP Media Center ptoblem or an h-p
computer problem.

My new H-P desktop is set to hibernate after an hour of inactivity. It
never quite gets there. When I come back and hit a key the screen says
"prerparing to hibernate". The only way to get going again is to hold
the power button in for 5 seconds, which completes a power-down.

This is annoying and probably not good for the computer.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

It indicates that either an application is not terminating properly, or that
a device driver is not quite compatible with the hibernate function (could
be a driver conflict as well). The tough part is figuring out which of these
it is. The only real way to do this is to selectively disable programs, or
ensure they are properly terminated before letting the system go idle. For
the drivers, check with the manufacturer of the various components (not
WindowsUpdate) for the most recent release.

I am experiencing the same problem with my HP desktop. I noticed the problem
when I connected my computer to a APS Battery Backup. When a power outage
occured the Battery Backup triggers the computer to hibernate, but I got an
error message telling me one of my drivers was causing the system not to
hibernate. For now I just disabled hibernation until I have more time to
troubleshoot which driver is causing the problem.

Thanks for your help. I'll see if I can find the offender, program by
program.
