my computer freezes up after viewing pictures

Whenever I view pictures in my pictures folder that have beeen downloaded from my digital camers(digimax 220 by samsung) my computer freezes up. I also emailed pictures to someone and after trying to view them on their computer they froze up too. What is my problem?
 
Hi Debbi,

How are you viewing these images (with what program)? Are they jpeg images?
What happens if you try to open one of the images in MSPaint? What happens
when you right-click, Preview on one of the images? What happens if you
open one of the images in Internet Explorer?

I'd like to narrow down if it's the image that is the problem, or the
application you're viewing them in, or Explorer (My Pictures folder).
