When I boot my PC the "MY Computer" folder opens on the desktop. I've tried
googling to find answers. Lots of ideas but no answers that fixed...any help
appreciated. I've been looking for answers for 3 weeks.

In XP that was caused by a bad entry in the Run key in the registry. Click
the start orb, and type:
msconfig

The startup tab may have an entry that looks 'incomplete.' Windows defender
has 'software explorer' to help remove those.

Software Explorer in Windows Defender :

Mark- Here's my quandray...I have One Care Live installed. It's my
understanding that Defender isn't necessary if you have One Care Live. I have
run one care live tune-up several times to no avail, and now when I try to
open Defender after downloading it, it sees One Care Live and won't open
unless I uninstall One Care Live. I do recall seeing an incomplete Registry
entry and it caught my eye...not sure where it resides now however. What
might be the next step. I hate uninstalling One Care Live...it'
s a pain! Any other suggestions?

I just found what might be that entry. Under (REGISTER) name:Kernal &
Hardware Abstraction Layer>TYPE is REG_SZ>Value:KHALMINPR>EXE. that's all is
shows and looks out of the ordinary. I "THINK" is from an add on that makes
my task bar adjustable and transparent. Not sure though. Should I try
deleting that Registry entry and running my registry software, try to
uninstall what I think it might be or....????

Google that .exe and see what is said .

Well, assume I've given you all the usual warnings on editing the registry.
Export and merge should allow you to experiment. "Last known good config"
from the F8 menu is always available.

I was, of course, referring to the RUN keys.
HKEY_Current_User/.... AND
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Well I set a registry restore point. I don't see anything that is obviously
wrong looking. Coulds I just go through and delete each one at a time to see
what happens, restore registry if I have a problem?
