My computer desktop changed

My desktop has flipped to one side i.e. all the shortcuts looks as if ithey
have been turned upside down. This is the first time it has happened what
shouldI do?

Sounds like you've fiddled with the monitor adjustments.

Can be done directly thru the monitor, or your video card settings.

If you know for fact you haven't touched the monitor or anyone else has, you should fire up the video card software and adjust there.
 
Try pressing CTRL+ALT+UP and CTRL+ALT+DOWN keys for rotation. Shortcut keys
for Intel Graphics Rotation.

Otherwise, right-click on your Desktop - choose Properties - click Settings
tab - click - Advanced - click Intel Extreme Graphics (If you have the same)
- here look for Graphic Properties and click the button - find Rotation tab -
uncheck Enable Rotation.
