How do I make a picture a background for the My Computer Folder? Is it
physical or virtual folder? How do I change the background color? JTM

I missed the My Computer part the first time I read your post.

I have got to stop skipping that Remedial English class.

My Computer is a namespace extension or a virtual folder.

My Computer CLSID is {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}.

Wesley :

If that is the case how do I add a key to add the background?
According to my registry this is what it says:
{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
Infotip reg_expandsz systemroot
Introtext
localizedstring

under default icon
defualt reg_expand_sz .....

so where do I put the <directory>/<file> to my pic?

John

Hi John,

I don't think that you can customize My Computer background.

My Computer does not have a desktop.ini file.

explorer ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
in the Run command will open My Computer.

So will
file:///::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

I ran this command in the Run command....

explorer ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D},desktop.ini

and got this ...
---------------------------
Windows Explorer
---------------------------
The path 'desktop.ini' does not exist or is not a directory.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

And I see no way on earth to add a desktop.ini to My Computer.

Someone smarter than I am will have to help. Or you will have to pick other
folders to customize the background.
