My comp keeps getting slower and slower by the day

I do frequent defrags and go into my add and remove
software window often to remove software I dont need.
However I still have numerous programs running in my task
manager when I hit (ctrl + alt + delete) This is where my
performance problems exist. I am not sure how to
eliminate some of these programs from running which I
believe are bogging down my comp. I would like to remove
or eliminate these from running. I would venture to guess
I have in excess of 30 programs running on this or more.

Step 8 will tell you how to determine what is and is not needed.
From there, go to the particular application and look in "Options" or
"Settings" and stop it from starting at boot.
You can also disable applications in MSCONFIG, but that is not
advisable as it is intended for troubleshooting only.
 
one thing you can try is to download a spyware remover.
you might have some shady programs installed w/o your
knowledge. (especially if you use the regular kazaa.) A
good tool is ad- aware- you can getit at
http://www.lavasoft.de/
also look in your startup folder for things you dont use,
and disable them. go to start>programs>startup and check
it out.
