my CDRW drive is no longer recognised by Windows

Yesterday I reinstalled my WIndows X
At first boot up everything was fine, but after installing Roxio Burning Sofware (Direct CD) it has disabled the driver
I have un-installed the driver and hardware + rebooted to no avai
I don't want to reformat again, simply because my CD won't work
Any suggestions gratefully received

It is an older version but armed with the patch I decided to load it up and then patch it
I downloaded the patch onto a CD-R, but now my CDRW player isn't recognised, I can't load i
Being in a chicken and egg situation, I uninstalled the Direct CD software altogether in the hope that that would enable XP to recognise my CDRW
I now get a message saying It has recognised my CDRW as a Toshiba SD-R1202, which is correct, and installed the driver for that drive. It further says - if it is not working then it is the hardware that's not workin
I find that difficult to believ

I had exactl the same problem and someone told to change the registry keys and it fixed it, here is the message they sent me

Which version of Roxio Easy CD? You need at least v5.1!
