My CD-RW and DVD-ROM drivers are GONE!!

I have 2 optical drives in my system, one a CD-RW drive and
the other a DVD-ROM drive. For some reason however, thw
drivers for them seem to be missing. When i try to
reinstall them, I get the following message:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Is there anyway to get my drivers back? I have tried
everything that I can think of trying. The only other
option I can think of is to format my hard-drive and start
all over. Can anyone help me? Thank you if you can.

(There are other ways to get the bad registry keys than an upgrade install
of XP.)
