My Cd rom drive doesn't open it is stuck shut, I don't know why but you push
the button to open it to put a disk in and it don't open at all. I just used
it the other day and had no problems at all. Does anyone have any
suggestions of what I should do??? I am pretty computer illiterate so if
someone can help can they help in a very detailed way??? Amber

HI,

Double left click "My Computer", right click on the CD-rom drive icon and
left click the "Eject" button.

If the tray still can't be opened, power off the PC.

Look at the front panel of the CD drive, there should be a very small hole
for the mechnically release of the disk tray. Use a clip and then strighten
the wire.
The diameter of the wire should be a little bit smaller then the hole.
Insert the wire into the hole and push it slightly until it release the disk
tray lock.

Care: Must NOT push too hard to cause permanent damage to the disk tray
mechanism.

Hope it helps.

Peter

Amber:
Glad to hear Peter's suggestion worked for you. Just one thing more. We have
found that when a CD/DVD-ROM or recorder fails to open and/or close
properly - even initially only once, it may foretell that the device will
soon fail. Not always, of course, but it can be a signal that the tray
mechanism has a problem. I mention this because if your Dell machine is
still under warranty, it may be wise for you to contact Dell to inform them
of the problem you had with your CD-ROM drive.
