I am runiing Windows 2000. Both My CD-ROM and CD-Writer drives have
disappeared! I look into Device Manager, it says the devices are not working
properly with this ! mark against both drives in yellow. Tried to uninstall
and re-install them again but still no sign of them. Any advice on how to
get them back please.

Thanks
Ray

I'd got similar problem after uninstalling of NTI CD burning software,
because it deleted all CD drivers from my PC (Win2000 Prof).

So, firstly check if your BIOS sees CD-ROM (maybe your CD-ROM just dead).

If you able to see CDROM in BIOS devices table that you just need to install
CD-ROM drivers again.

Check this page:

In addition to the other replies, do the trays still eject.. i.e. has the
power cable in the back of the drives fell out/packed up... if you can I'd
check the ide cable too, if they've both gone it might've slipped from the
mainboard.

Something similar happened to my PC.
The answer "in my case" was re-flash the BIOS.
In any case re-flash the uptodate BIOS version does many good things to your
MB.
Read up HOW TO first.
It is tricky, but highly recommended.

Good luck

Flashing the bios is a lot less tricky with the new MB's.
