My CD and DVD drivers have gone missing!

I just noticed today that my D: and E: drives are not being recognized by my
computer anymore. The rest of the system works perfectly as if the computer
had no CD or DVD drive. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the
drivers and the same problem keeps happening. I have physically removed and
reinstalled the drives and still the same problem. I have performed a spyware
and a virus scan and nothing shows. My system is clean.

There are no roll back drivers available for the drives and the websites
have no current drivers either as they are plug and play.

I'm at my wits end and I would appreciate any help I could get from here.

Thanks in advance,
Wits end

See if this helps: "CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error
Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator
in Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314060).

That was the fix. Thank you for your help Thorsten! I was about to throw my
comp out the window but then I would have had to clean the driveway and I'm
just too lazy to do all that.

Thanks

Thorsten
Hi, I am having a similiar problem and followed the instructions that you
gave to "Wits End". I only have upper filters, is there a way that I can
safely create the lower filter string?
Thanks, Donna

I'm sorry I only have the lower filters. I meant to ask about creating an
upper filter string.

Wits End,

I'm no expert and don't usually respond to these but...
Are your drives missing or your drivers?
Have you added any new devices such as jump drives?
Can you see the drives in "Disk Management"? If so, try to reassign drive
letter.
Do you have power to both drives? (obvious I know)
Did you re-seat the IDE cable to the motherboard when you removed and
reinstalled drives?
