I've followed the instructions on using files from my
main computer and synchronising them in 'my briefcase' on
my laptop. Unfortunately, when I come to update them, I
get a dialog box telling me that read-only files were not
updated. But none of the files in question are read-only.

When I come to look at the files on my main computer,
they haven't been updated.

But I can update the files (to the old un-modified
versions on my main PC) using 'my briefcase', without a
problem.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I'd be grateful for help sent to my e-mail address. Thanks

May be a security issue if NTFS is used on both systems. See the topic
"Ownership" in Help and Support. Also, there's an MS Knowledge Base article
on this:

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
