i am a design student at RISD, bought this printer and and had problems
with print quality.... being busy i ignored it and eventually shipped
it back home with me during a break to work on. I finally got it to
work after unclogging printerheads etc. When i got my printer back to
school from the flight and plug it in, press on button nothing happens.
I tryed taking out cord and plugging back in, trying different plugs,
etc... but when i press the on button nothing happens. This happen to
anyone? Did something just come loose? Any advice before i have to get
it repaired at my expense? It is just barely over the year warrantee.
PLEASE HELP!

YOU CAN PROBABLY BUY A NEW CANON INKJET WITH OEM INK FOR THE PRICE OF
PAYING SOMEONE TO REPAIR THE OLD ONE.

Epson has very good email support.
Spontaneous total electrical failure within the printer is very unlikely
barring mishap like spilling water on the innards or dropping the machine.
If you are a student at RISD presumably you understand why Epson is the
preferred brand for serious color manged printing.
If not, your parents need to rethink your tuition.
They might be better off spending the money on a new BMW.

There are very few likely causes for this.
It will either be a poor (dislodged by vibration perhaps?) connection in the
printer, especially the flat cable connection to the control panel (check both
ends are pushed well home).
Or cable connections between the power supply and other components.
Or the fuse on the power supply.
Or the power supply has failed.

It is important to note that the printer has power applied whenever it is
plugged in to the mains and should therefore always be considered "live" unless
the mains cable is removed.

Cover removal is simple.
Unplug the power cord.
Remove the Input paper guide support at the back.
Move the paper guide all the way to the left (facing the front of the machine).
Push the paper Guide lever to the + position.
Remove 4 screws, 2 at the front (open the top cover to see them) and 2 at the
rear.
Push the cover towards the back and lift up carefully. Watch for any cables
that get in the way.
When reinstalling the cover watch for a flat cable at the back and ensure it
does not get caught up in the cover.

Don't be tempted to turn the printer over or you may get ink spillage depending
on the state of the waste ink pads. There is a small chance that the printer
was not shipped vertically which may have resulted in ink spillage that could
have contaminated some of the electronics but if that is the case you should
see this when the covers are removed.
Good luck.

Given the cost of labor is $50ish to $100ish/hr for printer repair, and
given the lowest end new canon would be $400.. IIRC the 1280 used a
single black and a multi-color dye cartridge, so one doesn't need to
consider the imageGRAF (or was it imageGRAF) series.

Might I sugest that you do not respond to posts regarding printers a3
and larger. There is no shame for being ignorant on this issue as not
everyone has an application for one.

Sounds like something got jarred during shipment, perhaps a fuse broke
or fuse blew, if it is doing nothing at all on attempting to turn it on.

If you email me privately, I will try to look over the service manual
fro troubleshooting steps and suggestions, but I will probably need a
few days to get to it.

Hi,
As others have said; there may be a broken fuse, or it could be simply a
bad power cord, or even bad switch. If the printer is "just out of warranty"
I would still contact Epson and explain the situation if what the other
posters have mentioned seem out of your reach. Epson may just honor the
warranty with an exception for good customer relations.
Lately I think Epson could use some better customer satisfaction for the
crap they've been turning out on their low end models.

Hi Jon,

I think this varies with the ISP and the email client in use, so I
provide it in the body as I do. I'm afraid spam is a way of life, so I
cope with it, as we all do.
