my apps stopped working after update

After applying several windows updates, several of my
applications no longer work. I installed Mozilla and it
won't work at all. My scanner software stopped working.
Photoshop Elements stopped working.

Recent event log entries:
Windows 2000 Hotfix KB824146
Windows 2000 Hotfix Q818043
Windows 2000 Hotfix KB822831
Microsoft (R) Windows 2000 (R) 5.0 2195 Service Pack 4
Uniprocessor Free.

Are there known problems with any of these updates?

Details:
When I open the scanner software and Photoshop Elements, I
get this

message:

____.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
windows. You will

need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner software.
I also

tried installing an updated TWAIN driver from the Epson web
site.

And a final clue... Norton SystemWorks provides the following

information (after I ran WinDoctor):
The key, "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App

Paths\AppFil.exe," refers to an invalid application path,
"C:\Program

Files\EPSON\Smart Panel\AppFile.exe"

Same message again for each of these:
C:\Program Files\EPSON\Smart Panel\Applet.exe
....\App0cr.exe
....\Copy.exe
....\Epp.exe
....\OcrEngine.exe
 
Updates often cause software problems. I suggest contacting customer
service of each of the programs to ensure the latest versions.
