I have a connect 3D 9600 Pro, it's nice and sharp. You may have a
defective card.

Is that an all-round good card? I was considering it, but the fan looks
like one of those cheezy little noisemakers that dies in 2 weeks.

Works like a champ for me. I've had it for about 6 months now heavily
overclocked and it's still rock solid. It doesn't come with any
bundled software which was my preference, I have the games I want and
didn't want to pay for any others via a higher purchase price on the
card.

That "cheezy" looking fan was the same one I had on my 7500 and was one of
the first things I noticed on my 9600Pro. I had the 7500 running fine for 2
years. I'm guessing that the 9600Pro runs so cool that a fan is probably
superfluous. Your probably looking for the fan with chrome fins with wings
and wild colours etc! Try ATI's partners.

Wrong Einstein, I would prefer as quiet a fan as possible or no fan at
all. The Zalman heatpipe cooler won't fit in my mobo.
